Flipping Off Flippa
By Max | August 1, 2009
I know it has been a while since I last posted. I don’t have any excuses other than I was traveling for a while and just didn’t get back into a routine since returning from my trip. I sold off two websites before I left so there hasn’t been much activity for me lately.
One new development recently has been the migration of the Sitepoint marketplace to Flippa. I am not exactly sure why this was done, unless they just want to spin off the site sales business in the future. Unfortunately, they also decided to increase the cost of transacting a site. It now costs 5% of your sales price if you have a successful sale. This gets capped at $499, but thats still quite a lot, as the marginal cost for adding a site has got to be cheap. It doesn’t cost them anymore to list a $1000 site than a $10,000 site.
It looks like Flippa has been successful so far, but I think eventually another marketplace will gain traction due to these fee increases. I think its a good idea to charge a listing fee because it is a good way to keep the crap from cluttering up the marketplace, but $20 is about the most it should be.
There is a decent marketplace over at

It actually looks a lot like the old Sitepoint site. Maybe I’ll have to start my own?

I have been messing around with Twitter accounts lately – do you know of any good places to go and flip them?
Welcome back!
