Maximizing Adsense
By Max | July 4, 2007
So after switching from the 468 ad unit to the much larger 336×280 adsense block, I am already noticing a bid difference in adsense earnings. I already have a 75% increase in CTR. This should translate into substantially higher earnings. I haven’t even been running this larger block a full day yet and I already have more clicks than in any of the previous four days. Theres still 4 hours yet to go too! If you are not using the 336×280 block or at least one of the other large blocks you are leaving money on the table.

Wow, that’s a major increase in just within 24 hours! All of your posts are giving me more money-making ideas in my head; if I decide on taking action on any of ‘em, I’ll definitely share it with you and the rest.

Thats Insane, just goes to show how small things really do matter especially when it comes to monitising your website.
Congrats.

Do you know of any other good CPM programs???

I’m about to experiment with a few ad-sizes on my adsense sites. I’m getting decent CTR now though, so I’m not sure if they can be improved much or not.

Mark,
Casale, ValueClick, and Burst all offer CPM ad programs. Let me know if you are going to sign up with any of them, maybe I can get a referral bonus.

The question I have is: With a 75% increase in CTR, are you experiencing a 75% increase in clicks? It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next several days.

I did not experience 75% more clicks yesterday because the 4th of July produced much lower traffic. However despite the reduced traffic I still had more clicks.

Thanks, are any of them easier to get into than others?

Mark,
For low traffic sites, I believe ValueClick is your best bet. I think most of the others have minimum page view reqirements.

Bigger ad sizes help alot. I did that once and got a 100% increase in the CTR.
As for valueclick, it tends to work for websites with alot of pageviews but few conversions. IF you have few page views it is better off using more google ads.

I would watch the revenue/click for two weeks before thinking that the revenue has increased. Adsense might smart price you. Sometimes when you change an ad size, you might not get smart priced. However, at times when you do that you can get smarted price. It happened to me once. I got a huge jump in the CTR then adsense started cutting the revenue I received per click. I rose 100% then dropped back 50%. So the overall increase was 50%.
