Registering Nameservers With Godaddy

By Max | July 3, 2007

You’ve just bought a website, and transferred the domain to your godaddy account. After purchasing hosting, your host will send you your new server details, like the IP address, and login information. Now its time to register the nameservers.

Registering nameservers was not an obvious step to me the first time around. I am still not sure why it needs to be done, but nonetheless, you have to do it before you can point your domains to your server. Unfortunately, godaddy doesn’t make this obvious. It is however easy to do.

#1. Log in to you godaddy account. From the “Domains” drop down menu, select “My Domain Names”. This should take you to the Domain Control Center, where you’ll see a list of all your domains.

#2. Click the new domain for which you want to register the nameservers. Scroll to the bottom of this page, and in the lower left corner you should see a block called “Host Summary”.

Click “View/Modify Detail”

#3. The next screen is where you’ll register your nameservers. You should have two. Typically the IPs for the two are just one number off, like 70.86.245.146 and 70.86.245.147. Your hosting company will likely give you the addresses, but if not you can find them from WHM.

#3a. If you need to find out the nameserver info, go to WHM for your server. Select “Networking Setup” from the Main menu, and then “Nameserver IPs” from there. You should see your two nameserver assignments.

#4. After entering in the Nameserver information just click OK and you’re done. You should see something like this in the “Host Summary” box now.

Thats it. I am in the process of getting all this setup for the CounterStrike site, so I am trying not to leave out any details as I go along. Please comment if you need more information.

    Mark,

This just registers the nameservers. After you have done that, you’ll still have to point your domains to the nameservers. This is easily done by clicking on the Nameservers button from the Godaddy Domain Control Center.
