Microsoft Adcenter Emails Me
By Max | June 21, 2007
I got an email from MS Adcenter. They are now allowing advertisers to bid on Content Ads. This is just like the google adsense network. I haven’t yet figured out how to be an Adcenter publisher though. My guess is that they only have a few select sites running the ads currently. They probably don’t want to dilute the volume of ad inventory too much. This way they have tighter control. Hopefully they’ll open it up to other publishers and provide meaningful competition to Adsense soon. I am always nervous that google will one day just decide to pull the plug on my adsense account. Its nice to have a plan B.

It would be nice if Yahoo! would get cracking on this too. I’ve heard that the YPN offers more flexible pay plans and doesn’t have the mystery banning problem that people complain of google.

Yahoo has YPN, but I don’t think it is generally available to anyone who wants to use it. You have to be invited to join. People are selling invites on Sitepoint and Digitalpoint, but I wouldn’t pay for something like that unless I knew for sure that I would make more money.
I think the problem Yahoo has is that they don’t have enough advertisers to fill the entire internet’s inventory, so they can’t just unleash it to everyone.
