Last fall I bought the website, www.mymixeddrinks.com. It was ranked in MSN and Yahoo for some keyphrases, and had some small amount of traffic from that. It doesn’t have much of a presence in google and it still doesn’t.
When I purchase a site I try to have a plan for how to expand the site and get more value out of the purchase. The reason I was interested in this site is because I had seen a “Which mixed drink are you?” game on someone’s myspace page. I thought that it would be easy enough to add this to my site. Here’s the result.

Which Mixed Drink Are You?

This little addition helps in two ways. First of all you will get more traffic as it virally spreads across the internet. It may take a little work to get a critical mass, but once you do, the links will start popping up all over the place with very little effort on your part. Secondly, you’ll get to choose your anchor text that is linking back to your site. Hopefully a few pages with decent PR will drop the link on their site, and pretty soon you’ll be ranking higher and higher in the search engines. Its also a good idea to change the anchor text every once in awhile so you can start ranking for other keyphrases.
My next step should be to pay a couple people to post this on their myspace bulletins. Myspace gets so much traffic there is an entire web-cottage industry (photobucket) popping up just to siphon off some of its popularity. We might as well take advantage too.
