Sitepoint adds a new category
By Max | April 9, 2007
Sitepoint has added a new category to their marketplace called “Premium Sites”. I like the idea of having a separate category to list the bigger sites. It is pretty tough to buy a website over at digitalpoint because the for sale category is filled with trash sites going for a few bucks. This is a direct result of having free listings. I don’t waste my time wading through a lot of those listings because of that effect.
Sitepoint charges $20 for their normal category. Unfortunately they have decided to raise the price of a listing in the premium category. Its now $40 to list there. I think they should have kept the rates the same, but only allow sites with higher minimum bids to be advertised. The problem I am going to run into is that I will now have to look through the premium listings as well as the regular listings, so I might miss some sites. I think this is going to have the opposite affect of what they were hoping to have happen, since most serious buyers will also have their attention divided. Some cheapskate webmasters will know that the serious buyers are still wading through the normal category and post their large sites there anyway since its cheaper.

I too, thought the introduction of the premium site category was flawed. I only noticed it recently completely by chance and I have no doubt that most people who list their sites for sale will continue to do so in the older, established section.

Yeah, Its cheaper and all the big buyers are already looking there.
