Purchase Tip #1
By Max | March 29, 2007
The ideal website receives most of its traffic from search engines. There are two reasons why search engine traffic is best. When you see that the bulk of traffic for a potential purchase is coming from search engines, right away you know that the content of the site is relevant and sought after by the masses of the internet. Secondly, search engine traffic, once achieved is most likely to stick around after a purchase.
#1. Content of the site is relevant and sought after.
It is always a good idea, when evaluating a potential purchase to think about the relevancy of the content. If people are using google to search for it, you can bet that the topic is relevant to the world at large. In fact numerous studies are popping up to show how internet searches can almost provide a real time glimpse into society’s psyche.
#2. Search engine traffic has the most longevity.
A lot of websites can experience a surge of traffic based on a recent link from another high traffic website. Digg and slashdot are good examples of this. If Slashdot cites your website, you will experience some heavy traffic. The traffic may not last too long however. Once the linking site has moved on to other news, your link which provided so much traffic will be lost in the shuffle. The traffic it provided will dry up.
Search engine traffic, however, will last as long as people are searching for it, and your site is listed near the top of the search results. It is difficult to get a site near the top of search results, but once there, maintaining your position becomes much easier. Instead of working hard to pass sites, you just have to work hard enough to keep lower ones beneath you.
